You mark only the exceptions.

This is Sunita Devi's July — one row of the roll. The system wrote almost all of it: everyone starts the day Present, weekly offs and state holidays apply themselves.

Priya touched this row twice all month: one absence with a reason, one half-day settled at the gate. Ink she wrote herself: two marks. Ink the register wrote for her: twenty-four.

Salary reads the top card. The book keeps all three. On paper, the second entry would have been a scratch of ink over the first.

In a paper register, someone scratches the ink and trust goes with it. Here the day is a stack, not a cell: the newest entry sits on top and counts; every earlier entry stays beneath it — struck through, readable, signed.

Nothing is overwritten, ever. July's salary re-adds itself from the top card — and if the month was already paid out, the difference arrives in the next one as a clearly-labelled arrear. Issued payslips never change.

Salary that shows its work.

Every mark in the row flows into the tally column — monthly, daily-wage or hourly, per business or per person. The overtime is the magenta from her row. The −2,000 is the festival advance from 12 July. Check the math; it adds up.

Priya reviews line by line and approves. An approved month is final — the FINAL stamp means the same thing it meant on paper, except this one cannot be quietly peeled off.

One tap after approval and every staff member holds this — in English, Hindi or their own language, on WhatsApp or on paper. It is sealed to the approved month: reprint it in five years and it reads the same.

Sunita logs in herself — company code, her ID, a PIN. On a ₹6,000 Android, because that is the phone this is designed for. No app is forced on anyone.

The book prints itself.

The paperwork the month used to cost a weekend now falls out of the roll in one tap — and every number on every page traces back to the day it came from. Download it, print it, or WhatsApp it straight to your CA.

Your CA gets the same book you see — not a photo of a register taken in bad light.

Ready for your CA — and the inspector.

The book keeps you ready for the questions that come later. PF & ESI switch on when you need them, computed per component. Registers print in the muster-roll form an inspection expects. And "I was present that day" is answered by the mark, the author, the time and the reason.

Your CA doesn't need a folder of photocopies — invite them into the book itself. View, not edit; you approve, you revoke; and it cuts both ways: every look is logged.

Ask the book who did it.

Under every page of the roll runs one spine: a permanent history of everything that ever happened — every mark, every correction, every advance, every rate change, every payslip, every look by every person.

Ask it anything, years later: a name, a day, an amount — and it answers with who, when and why. The one question paper could never answer is the first one this book was built for.
